Meet the Merrill Budz

Harrison Merrill, 13
Harrison is the spark of the Merrill family—the beloved youngest and unofficial mascot, adored by all his older siblings. Born with cerebral palsy, Harrison has worked tirelessly through years of therapies and practice to overcome obstacles. And this year, just shy of 14, he accomplished a huge milestone: riding his bike for the very first time. That moment of freedom and determination is just one example of who he is.
Harrison has a curious mind, a passion for building, and a drive to work hard—just like his dad. He dreams of becoming a pilot, and he’s already on his way as a proud member of the Civil Air Patrol, where he gets hands-on experience with airplanes and opportunities to serve his community. Whether he’s folding paper airplanes or chasing real ones, Harrison reminds us that with persistence and heart, the sky is never the limit.

Kalicia Merrill, 19
Kalicia has been the rock of our family since she was just two years old—always ready to love, lift, and lead with quiet strength and deep compassion. A true symbol of inclusion, Kalicia naturally steps in to serve others and make everyone feel they belong. She is a gifted singer-songwriter with a passion for music that heals and inspires; her original songs, and professionally produced music videos reflect her heart for people and her faith in something greater. Kalicia is currently serving a mission in Germany, sharing the message of Christ’s love while embracing new cultures with adventure and grace. A natural gatherer and encourager, she has also walked through her own health struggles with courage and resilience. Kalicia reminds us that joy and service go hand in hand—and that the most powerful leaders are often the ones who lift others first.

Caroline Merrill, 17
Caroline lights up every room she enters—with quick wit, contagious laughter, and a heart that works as hard as it loves. She was born with cerebral palsy, but it’s never slowed her down. From navigating the world with determination to racing through the yard in her go-kart, Caroline lives with fearless energy and joy.
She’s one of the original inspirations behind Sweet Salvation Bakery, where she proudly helps and serves up her signature Sweet Caroline Brownies—a customer favorite! She loves school, kids, and dreams of becoming both a teacher and a race car driver. Caroline reminds us daily that disability is never a limitation—only another way to rise.

Charlotte Merrill, 21
Charlotte is a truth-teller, a bridge-builder, and the inspiring voice behind the So Let’s Be Friends podcast—a show that invites open, honest conversations about inclusion, disability, and what it means to truly belong. Born with cerebral palsy and walking with forearm crutches, Charlotte has never let anything keep her from showing up with strength, humor, and heart.
She is wise beyond her years and unafraid to be vulnerable. Her storytelling invites others to see differently, love deeper, and listen more openly. Through her interviews and lived experience, Charlotte advocates for people with disabilities and speaks boldly about faith, identity, and community. She is a living example of the Connection and Resilience pillars, inspiring others to stand tall, speak up, and shine in their own way.
Charlotte reminds us that real change starts with real conversations—and that every voice matters.

Austin Merrill, 31
Austin joined our family through adoption at age 14, bringing with him a bold spirit and unstoppable energy that continues to inspire everyone around him. Now 31, he is a devoted husband to Carla and a proud father to Olivia. As a professional truck driver, Austin is building a life of stability and purpose—proof that resilience and love can rewrite any story. Through faith, grit, and growth, he continues to overcome life’s challenges with courage and determination. Austin is a reminder that every life can rise—and that hope is always worth holding onto.

Jon Merrill, 31
Jon joined our family through adoption at age 14, bringing with him a compassionate heart and a desire to be understood. Over the years, he has faced serious struggles with mental health and time in the justice system—but his journey is one of growth, grit, and grace. Today, Jon is working full time, continuing to build a better life, and is proud to be the father of his son, Tylen. He deeply admires his wonderful girlfriend, who’s been a steady light in his life. Thoughtful, kind, and always grateful, Jon reminds us that healing is never a straight path—but every step forward matters.
